There is no particular definition of word "natural", so it is hard to tell what actually natural dog food means. The arising question is that does "natural" means no additive should be included in the dog's food, or it means the food should be grown in organic ways. We don't even have exact definition of organic. There are lot more other questions like, is a natural dog food can contain added substances like flavor enhancer etc?. Dictionary also offers number of definitions of word "natural", which one is most authentic, nobody is sure. In such a situation, it is wise to rely on our own common sense. It has also been seen that natural dog food for one state may not be natural in other state, so a lot depends on the environment, but one thing is sure that natural dog food is free from any harmful ingredient.
Most of the vets today are of the view that processed dog food is the main cause of illness and premature deaths in dogs. It is come to known by research that processed dog food blocks the immune system and causes dysfunction of liver, heart and kidney. Raw dog food and organic food are two most popular foods among dog's owners. These dog foods can be easily attributed as natural dog food because both offer healthy ingredients which are necessary for the digestion.
Natural dog food stimulates the brain and gives your dog cellular powers. This cellular energy is necessary to repair tissues, organs and cells. Moreover, it performs many healthy functions inside dog's body.
The natural dog food should be well designed and equalized. In simple words, be very careful to select the food ingredients. A perfect natural dog food should have all the nutritional components which are necessary for dog's growth. A balanced diet will help the dog to fight against diseases and aid him in the healing process.
Essential enzymes should also be a part of natural dog food. Natural dog food has advantage over processed dog food in a way that in processed dog food the enzymes die because of processing the food in heat, while it remains alive in natural dog food. Digestive enzymes should be added in the dog's food; it helps dog to absorb nutrients much more easily and efficiently.
Natural dog food is made by combining different foods like: meaty bones, pulpy vegetables, fruits, garlic, yogurt, raw eggs, and raw organ meats of liver, heart, kidney etc. Dog food should also have supplements like: flax seed oil, cod liver oil, olive oil, fish body oil, or ground flax see meal, to provide him necessary fatty acids. In addition, natural dog food should also contain Vitamin B, C & E supplements in the form of kelp powder or brewers yeast.
